Sienna's 4th fairy princess party

Sienna's ballerina and tutu cake
When you've got two princesses for daughters, it's to be expected that at least one of them WILL request a fairy party for their birthday. This year was no different, except I was given strict instructions by my 2nd daughter, Sienna that for her 4th birthday party: "It won't be just a fairy party mum. It will be a fairy PRINCESS party!" And that changes everthing of course! BUT WAIT... the cake must be a ballerina cake, but only the cake. Nothing else about this party must be ballerina-esque. This child of mine certainly KNOWS what she wants. But it did make life easier when thinking about what cake to make.

I had lots of fun crafting the tutu for the cake. I watched a video on You Tube on how to make tutus and just used a ribbon instead of elastic to wrap around the base of the cake. For the ballet shoes I used gumpaste so that they held their shape, and I kept the cake pretty simple to keep it looking delicate and girly, too much detail and it would have taken away from the sweetness of it. My harshest critic, Sienna was wowed by the cake - and that's all you can ask for really!

For the party, we let the girls paint their own fairy houses (mini birdhouses I found on the internet) and EVERYONE loved this. What girl doesn't love to do craft? Plus was a great first activity to get everyone involved before the fairy arrived. My mother-in-law gasped in horror at the paint, glitter and sparkles that we had set up on the table and said: "This is going to end in disaster!" But strangely enough, even though the majority of the kids were 4 year olds, it didn't.

And of course, the party ended with a trademark pinata which is so much fun for the kiddies. Sienna had a magical day - it was great to see her loving all the attention and fuss. And when I asked her what she enjoyed most about her party she said: "Everything!" Looks like mummy filled the brief.

Enjoy the snaps!
